It is lovely to be able to announce that St Mary’s will be re-opening its doors for services from Sunday 11 April
On Sunday 4 April, Easter Day there will be a joint Eucharist in St Giles Church, Durham with the congregations from our sister churches of St Giles and St Cuthbert’s Shadforth. As this is a joint service, we expect a high attendance and therefore ask that anyone wishing to attend contacts us beforehand to ensure we have room for you! Please email the Parish Office at firstname.lastname@example.org
It is, of course, still necessary to strictly observe all the guidelines regarding social distancing and hygiene. You will be required to wear a mask and hand sanitiser will be available as you enter the church. You can read a summary of the guidelines here and there are clear instructions on entering the church about how to observe these protocols to keep everybody safe. In addition, our Bishops have specifically requested that ‘You should follow the guidance on the safe use of places of worship and must not mingle with anyone outside your household or support bubble when attending a place of worship.’ We ask that anyone attending a service leaves church in an orderly fashion at the end. We all very much look forward to the day when we can all meet socially at the end of our worship.
Whenever possible, we will continue to make some services available to join via Zoom. This Sunday these will be the 10.00am Eucharist and Evening Prayer at 6.00pm and on Wednesday 7 April, Morning Prayer at 10.00am.
From Sunday 11 April services will be held in church as follows:
9.30am Sunday – Eucharist (or Service of the Word dependent on clergy availability)
10.00am Thursday – fortnightly – Holy Communion in church
A number of people have found the Daily Hope phone line helpful during lockdown. This is a freephone number available to all, 0800 804 8044. We want to emphasise that St Mary’s is here for everyone – if you or anyone you know would like to receive the weekly sheet or have a regular pastoral phone call please do let us know, and remember you can contact us by phone at any time.
